Adult Swimming Lessons

At Oldham Active, we believe the ability to swim is an essential life skill, so much so that we offer FREE swim lessons to adults in Oldham.

We operate seven pools in Oldham and offer swimming lessons that have been developed to support adults in learning how to swim.

We have taught more than nine thousand adults to swim for free in our adult learn to swim pathway. The lessons, which kickstarted in 2012, aim to take non swimmers through to being able to swim 10 metres, as well as learning key lifesaving water skills.

We understand there are many barriers to people learning to swim, including a prohibitive cost. This was one of the reasons we introduced our free weekly 25-minute beginner group for adults.

Oldham Active swimming coaches are committed to supporting you through your swimming journey.

These classes are for adults new to swimming. We offer 25-minute beginner group for adults.

Benefits of swimming lessons

  • Being able to swim is a life-saving skill that can help keep you and others safe in and around water.
  • Swimming is a full-body workout that can help you build strength, improve flexibility, and maintain a healthy weight. It’s also a good cardiovascular exercise that’s gentle on your joints.
  • Swimming is a fantastic way to connect with others and be part of a community. Social interactions can be a great motivator for adults to stay committed to their swimming goals.
  • Whether you’re planning a beach holiday, a cruise, or a staycation, knowing how to swim enhances your travel experiences. You can fully enjoy water-based activities like snorkelling, scuba diving, and paddle boarding, knowing that you have the skills to stay safe in the water.

How much do swimming lessons cost?

The first 10 weeks are completely free. Once learners can successfully swim 10 meters, if they wish to, they can move into our weekly intermediate lessons, which are chargeable at £27.50 a month.
