    Maternity Cover – Up to 12 months

    A temporary Aquatic Team Leader is required to oversee swim lessons at Saddleworth Pool and Failsworth Sports Centre.

    Oldham Active are looking for an effective leader with an eye for detail and an ability to motivate and get the best from their team. Applicants should have exceptional customer care skills and an infectious enthusiasm to provide the best possible standards of service to the Oldham Community. The post of Aquatic Team Leader is a key role in achieving this.

    The role of the Aquatic Team Leader is to oversee and ensure the effective management and profitability of the ‘Learn to Swim’ scheme by providing supervision of staff and resources and meeting customer and stakeholder aspirations. The role of Aquatic Team Leader will require flexibility to work across various units and the place of work may be varied from time to time.

    Individuals should ideally have previous experience of line managing staff within a leisure setting and ideally hold current swimming teacher, pool lifeguard or Safety award for teachers’ qualifications. These qualifications are a requirement of the post of Aquatics Team Leader, as successful candidates may be required to provide swimming teacher cover as and when required. Training will be provided if necessary and confirmation of the appointment can only be granted during the probationary period to those individuals who attain the above qualifications.

    Hours of work may include evening and weekend work at times to reflect the requirements of the business. The contract is for 20 hours per week, and you will be expected to vary your working pattern on occasion to provide the necessary cover to meet the needs of the business and ensure qualified lesson delivery at site.

    The role is expected to last for a period of up to 12 months and will and will end on the post holder’s return.

    The salary for the role is OCL Band 7, points 20-22 and equates to £22,513 based on 40hrs per week and rises incrementally to £23,286 per annum. This is a consolidated rate of pay and covers all hours worked.

    Contracted employees of Oldham Active may apply for the position on a secondment basis from any current contracted hours.

    Administration & Data Assistant

    Administration & Data Assistant

    This is an exciting opportunity for individuals to become a part of the Health and Physical Activity Team within Oldham Community Leisure.  Applications are invited from individuals who will be responsible for aspects of the operation of the gym, instruction and financial performance.

    To complete administration and data review work for the Exercise Referral scheme within the Health and Physical Activity Development Team (HAPAT).

    Main duties of the role will be to control the management of received referrals to ensure that all data is stored and logged securely to maximise the numbers of clients who are contacted and take part in the scheme.

    To manage and review the data received and compiled to ensure that accurate statistics and analysis of the information are readily available for the completion of any required reports.

    To manage the administration of all paperwork from prospective and current users, using systems and techniques documented within OCL financial procedures.

    To be the main point of contact to ensure that we maximise the number of referrals contacted and booked into take part in the scheme.

    Ensure that any information given to the public or partners is up to date and accurate.

    Operating procedures, policies and standards are to be achieved effectively with an emphasis on customer care.

    Ensure that high levels of customer service are adopted at all times.

    Answer telephone enquiries from prospects and current users within given timescales.

    Hours can be agreed upon successful confirmation of the role (6 hours)

    Gymnastics Coach – Part Time Hours

    Gymnastics Coach

    Do you have what it takes to be part of the team and to provide a first class customer service across sports centres in the OCL group?

    The role will be hectic and the expectations for high standards are always there – if this still appeals to you and you are looking to prove your skills as a Gymnastics Coach we want to hear from you.

    A level 1 qualification is the first stage of the coaching pathway for this discipline. As a level 1 coach you will be able to work with the Level 2 coach to help participants develop their skills, strength and co-ordination. You are able to lead your own sessions within OCL, helping participants develop the skills required to compete in entry-level competitions.

    You will need to have already completed a UKCC Level 1 General Gymnastics Award, or a UKCC Level 1 award in men’s or women’s artistic gymnastics.

    Casual Assistant Gymnastics Coach

    This is an exciting opportunity for individuals to become a part of the newly developed gymnastics team within Oldham Community Leisure.  Applications are invited from individuals who will be responsible for delivering a graded, progressive scheme which fits within the Sports Development Continuum and meets the needs of the people of Oldham.

    Individuals must hold a current British Gymnastics qualification.

    Casual Exercise Class Instructor

    Casual Gym Instructor

    This is an exciting opportunity for individuals to become a part of the gym team within Oldham Community Leisure.  Applications are invited from individuals who will be responsible for aspects of the operation of the gym, instruction and financial performance.

    Main duties of the role will include customer care, conducting fitness programmes and cleaning duties.

    Operating procedures, policies and standards are to be achieved effectively with an emphasis on customer care.

    Various shifts are available on a casual basis; individuals who can work daytime shift are strongly required.

    Individuals should have previous experience in work relating directly to a gym environment, with a REPS recognised gym qualification to a minimum of Level 2.  A first aid certificate would be desirable.

    The rate of pay for the role is £6.83 – £9.50 per hour and is dependent upon age.

    Casual Leisure Attendant

    The role of the Leisure Attendant is to undertake pool supervision, the safe erection and dismantling of sports equipment, dealing with customers, cash handling, reception duties, cleaning and housekeeping and general control of facilities and activities to a high level of customer satisfaction. You will oversee the general safety of the public and the facilities.

    It is desirable that individuals should hold a current STA Pool Lifeguard qualification but is not essential as training can be provided. However, to achieve this qualification the ability to be able to swim will be required.  A DBS check will be a requirement of the role.

    The rate of pay for the role of Leisure Attendant starts at £6.83 – £9.50 per hour and is dependent upon age.  The hours available are worked on an ad hoc basis, covering for holidays, sickness and vacant posts.

    Casual School Sports Coach

    We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic individuals with experience in delivering a range of activities to young people in primary schools.

    OCL currently deliver to 50 Primary schools across the borough, offering a range of activities. The successful candidate will be asked to support the delivery of the In School Coaching Programme, delivering high quality curriculum PE lessons and extra-curricular clubs. In addition, Sport Development provide leadership, health and wellbeing programmes, dance and early years.

    The Sports Development service provides young people with a wide range of year-round Sport, Dance and physical activity opportunities, including day time, evenings, weekends and holiday periods. Activities are delivered across School, Community and Leisure Facility settings, with the aim of increasing participation levels.

    The role will require flexibility to work across various school and facilities.

    The ideal candidate will possess:

    • Experience of delivering sport / PE based activities within a school environment
    • Experience of delivering out of school activities
    • Experience of working with children and young people across the age and ability range.
    • An NGB Level 2 Qualification or equivalent

    Casual Swim Teacher

    Do you have what it takes to be part of the team and to provide a first class customer service across swimming lessons within the OCL group?

    Due to the hours available and the training provided, this role would be particularly suitable for those wanting to work on a casual basis around other commitments such as college, university, child care or other work commitments.  

    A requirement for the role is to hold a current STA or equivalent Swim Teacher qualification as well as an STA Safety Award for Teachers (SAT) or STA Pool Lifeguard (PLG) qualification.  For Parent and Baby lessons the STA Baby and Pre-school is a requirement.  You will also be required to attend training for one and a half hours on a monthly basis in order to keep this qualification current and two quarterly CPD’s which will also be available throughout the year.  The rate of pay for a Teacher is £11.46 per hour.

    As part of OCL’s total reward package there is a generous holiday entitlement which is over and above the statutory minimum, a pension scheme into which the company contributes, you will be provided with full uniform and any equipment required to undertake your job role.  Also offered is free parking and use of the facilities. 

    Each session runs for a duration of twenty five minutes and will usually be offered in blocks of hours at a time.  Those shifts which total over two hours will include a paid gap for administration or teacher support depending on the role.
