The Orbit 4 X400 Challenge

What is the X400 Challenge?

The X400 Challenge is a fast-paced, relay-oriented functional fitness challenge designed to test your strength, speed, endurance, and teamwork. It’s not a competition, but a clear and honest benchmark of your fitness.

Teams or individuals complete eight rounds, which will include running, carries, lunges, crawls, and jumps, totalling 3.2km of effort. The format will feel familiar if you’ve ever considered HYROX, but you absolutely don’t need to be an athlete to participate.

Why should you participate?

By participating, you can:

  • Find out where your fitness really stands
  • Experience a structured fitness challenge in a supportive, non-competitive environment
  • Test whether events like HYROX might be for you, without the pressure of race day
  • Stay sharp and motivated between training cycles
  • Have fun pushing yourself alongside friends or fellow members

Ultimately, the X400 is the safest, clearest way for everyday gym-goers to test their fitness before ever thinking about bigger competitions, or for more experienced athletes to gain a fun benchmark between events.

When and how?

The event will take place on Saturday the 7th of February, at Oldham Leisure Centre. To participate, we ask only that you donate £5 (per team), which will go directly to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice – our nominated charity. This donation will help fund specialist, end-of-life care to patients across Oldham. This will be collected on the day when you sign in.

There are various time slots available throughout the day, at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. 7 lanes are available for each time slot (21 spaces available). Teams will have 1 hour to complete the challenge – our fastest completion so far has been an amazing 24 minutes!

Up to 4 people are allowed per team – if you’re brave enough, you can even compete in 3’s, pairs, or solo! Each team can distribute the workload however you want, as long as each member completes one 10m length in every round. There will also be plenty of room for spectators, if you want to bring along some supporters.
