Open Weekend at Oldham Leisure Centre in Aid of Children in Need
Oldham Leisure Centre will be celebrating in style this weekend for their 1-year anniversary of opening and they’re inviting all Oldham residents to come along to enjoy the fun!
The 3 day Open Weekend is set to be one of the busiest periods the centre has seen yet, with lots of activities for the whole family to take part in – and it’s all in aid of Children in Need.
The new leisure centre will be kicking off their celebratory fundraiser on Friday 18th November with an early morning Spin class with their very own Pudsey Parry, followed by ‘Wax the Staff’, which will see if some of their brave staff members can ‘bear’ the pain in the name of charity.
OCL are hoping to raise as much money as possible for the children’s charity and have created a Justgiving page for any welcomed donations.
With Oldham Leisure Centre’s exercise classes being a firm favourite with members, the Open Weekend has a dedicated day of taster sessions on Saturday 19th November, with popular classes such as Zumba, Les Mills Bodypump, Bootcamp and Boxercise, all free to members or £1 for non-members. Members can also bring a friend for free over the weekend as a thank you for their support over the centre’s first 12 months.
The first year has seen a huge rise in memberships, proving how popular the new centre and its state of the art facilities have become with local residents, and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon.
Stuart Lockwood, Chief Executive of Oldham Community Leisure, says “12 months down the line the effect has been better than expected; put simply, it has reinvigorated everyone’s appetite to live a healthier lifestyle.”
The Open Weekend also offers something for kids too, with Tots Football for 5 years and under, Junior Basketball taster session and Family Sports Day on Sunday 20th November, plus the biggest event the centre has seen yet with an hour and a half long Zumbathon. Plus with gym challenges throughout the day including sit-ups, planks and burpees, and a free fitness test for both members and non-members, the Open Weekend will be a hit with fitness fanatics.
